KJLT HAS OPPORTUNITES TO BUILD NEW STATIONS
KJLT has some wonderful opportunities ahead that you will be interested in. Some months ago the FCC opened a window to file for new radio stations in the non-commercial portion of the FM band. KJLT applied for and won a construction permit to build another Christian FM radio station in North Platte! (Actually two were applied for with the hope of getting one). Though the coverage area would not be as large as our present FM station it would be significant and provide the opportunity to do another format of Christian radio programming meeting more needs. This would be done from our present studio and tower location. There are many details that will be worked out in the future, but it can be expected that to build this station will cost $100,000 or more. What’s nice about this is that it can be done from our present studio and tower site. That’s considerably less than having to erect a new tower and build a new studio. The present permit would allow for a 47,000 watt station, depending on the height of the antennae on our present tower etc. It is also possible that KJLT could win the second permit applied for which would be an even stronger station. Another opportunity for KJLT is to upgrade our translator site in Broken Bow to a primary radio station with at least 1000 watts. Translators are considered a secondary service with a maximum power of 250 watts and can be lost. A primary station is permanent and can not get “bumped”. The Broken Bow site can be upgraded. The cost today would be from $30,000 to $35,000. There may be other opportunities as well, but these are the ones with an open door right now. The permits allow three years to build or they will expire. Both are rare and exciting opportunities as building new stations are becoming more and more difficult and come with a price tag. There is a need to start raising the funds now to complete these projects. Would you prayerfully consider what part you might have in these exciting days and then give as God leads? The intent is to pursuit as doors open. And then there are always equipment needs that arise as well with our present AM and FM stations including HD radio. All are costly. KJLT would like to have a fund to address these opportunities as well as other equipment needs that arise. Thanks so much for your help. |
